SCOTLAND Reports

Kirkconnel: Dan Gillies visited Kirkconnel for four weeks with the gospel tent commencing in June and going on into July. The assembly was much encouraged with a good number of unsaved attending each night and some coming consistently during the campaign. The children’s meetings were also well attended with 45 to 50 children present each night. Kelloholm Primary School and Sanquhar Academy allowed our brother the opportunity to preach the gospel to many of the pupils while door to door visitation went on nearly every day. We trust and pray that God will bless these meetings and the Word faithfully preached to the salvation of lost souls and for His glory and the exaltation of our Lord Jesus Christ. The assembly would also like to express its appreciation for support given by various assemblies and to brother Paul Thomas from Cheddar Gorge who joined Dan for the first week.

Lanarkshire Gospel Work: The gospel campaigns held early this summer with Ian Jackson as the evangelist at Greengairs and Kirkmuirhill were preceded by much prayer and tract distribution, with many contacts made prior to the start of the meetings.

Greengairs is a former mining village, where the believers have had an active testimony for many years. It was great to see good attendance each evening at the meetings - over the 3 weeks as many as 43 unsaved folks came to hear the gospel. One woman attended on 7 different nights, and others came more than once. As far as we know there were no conversions, but one woman was restored and is now back in fellowship with the believers.

The meetings then moved to Kirkmuirhill and Blackwood, where the believers also have a good testimony. More young teenagers were present here, but not so many unsaved adults until the last few nights. Some who had attended on past occasions simply said they were not coming to hear the gospel. However, unsaved people came each evening: on the final night as many as 13 were present. We are not aware of anyone coming to faith in Christ, but the Lord knows the hearts of all.

During the six weeks, a time of prayer then open air witness preceded the gospel meetings each night. Many assemblies gave much help and support, taking the responsibility for street preaching, and this was greatly appreciated.

On the Saturdays, gospel rallies were held in various villages during the afternoons. Each of these began with prayer then open air preaching at 4 or 5 different locations within the villages, with 40 – 50 believers supporting the effort. This was followed by a time of profitable ministry in the evenings.

Tract distribution and door to door work in Coatbridge, Uddingston and Chapelhall over the six weeks was conducted by Roy Marshall with other brethren giving much appreciated help, and some contacts made will be followed up.
