The Lord’s Work & Workers

SCOTLAND

Barrhead: During the first two weeks of June special gospel meetings were held in the local Auchenback Community Centre and were well supported by local believers and various assemblies. The speakers were Martin Hunter, Kilwinning, and Norman Coulter, Newtownstewart. Over 2,000 invitation leaflets were distributed, entitled Reaching Others in the Community and showing a photograph of the Community Centre. Both brethren faithfully knocked on doors and gave personal invitations to the meetings. Many significant conversations took place there and in the streets, and several people came to the meetings and showed a real interest which is being followed up. Children from the community attended each night and were able to recite John 3.16 by the end of the meetings. Some who were prohibited by their parents from coming into the meetings stood outside where they received booklets and were told of the Saviour. Most felt that the hand of God was on the meetings but that Satan was also ready to snatch away the Good Seed the minute it was sown. Please pray that some seed has been sown in good ground.

Forres: Over the past few months the assembly has been greatly encouraged as one sister has been restored, two brethren received into fellowship, and two more brethren have been baptised. The summer work of tracting in the nearby villages is also proceeding.

St Andrews: A young man saved a few months ago was baptized in the sea on a sunny Lord's Day afternoon in June, with a company of about thirty believers to support the testimony and some townsfolk and visitors looking on. This is a great encouragement to the few believers trying to promote the assembly work in St Andrews. Regular meetings are held every week in the Gospel Hall: on Lord's Day evenings for the gospel and Thursday evenings for Bible teaching with good numbers attending. Please pray that the Lord will bless these efforts.

MIDLANDS

During the month of May the believers at Spencer Bridge Road, Northampton had a series of gospel meetings with Joe Baxter. They give God thanks for a precious soul, Peter, making a profession of faith in Christ and many others hearing the gospel soundly preached.

Please remember Peter in your prayers; he will need much support in the days to come as he has many problems to face, many due to his previous lifestyle.

There were 35 to 50 souls each night and of those there were between 5 and 17 unsaved in every evening. Local assembly support was much appreciated.

Please pray also for those who heard the message which went forth in various ways - through a radio interview with Joe, on the doors as Joe and a local brother, Howard Hughes, visited the houses surrounding the hall, the inmates at a local prison who attended the Bible class held with Joe and Howard (this is a weekly event for Howard). Pray, too, for those who attended the meetings, including contacts made by Howard on the doors, children of local believers, and others brought by members of other assemblies.
