The Lord's Work & Workers

SCOTLAND

Orkney

Stewart Moar has again been busy delivering gospel calendars in many parts of the Orkney Islands where there is no permanent assembly presence. He visited the districts of Evie and Rendall for the first time and found the hall where an assembly met from around 1860 to 1956, but few now with an interest in the gospel. On the island of Flotta where the huge oil terminal stands, calendars were accepted gladly, also on the larger Hoy he received a good welcome - some true believers have a gospel witness there. The northern isles of Eday, Stronsay, Sanday and North Ronaldsay were then visited, with reception varying from downright antagonism to hospitable welcome. Stronsay used to be the centre of a huge herring fishery and a great mission field a century ago. Sanday had an assembly from 1887 until the 1920s, and has periodic visits from evangelists, and a few believers still live there. He continues in his own area of Harray where, sadly, interest in the gospel is rare, while others do similar gospel literature distribution from the assemblies in the other parts of Orkney. As is to be expected in these islands, the weather is often wet and dreary, but our brother was able to sow the good seed of the gospel "beside all waters" and asks for prayer that some will bear fruit for eternity.

Lanarkshire

Early in November Stephen Grant completed his second six day visit this year to eleven Primary Schools in the area around the Overtown Gospel Hall. He has being doing this for several years now and is received well by the pupils and teachers alike. He addressed eight school assemblies and twelve groups of P6 and P7 classes. During these visits approximately 2,000 children and 95 adults heard the gospel and we do trust the seed sown will bear fruit. Please pray that these doors will remain open to the good Word of God.

West of Scotland

The assembly at Galston recently concluded nearly four weeks of Gospel Meetings with Alan Smith. A good number of unsaved folk attended each evening including some who had been contacted during door to door visitation, and some as a result of a new work carried out by the assembly in the form of a weekly food bank and soup kitchen. Please continue to pray for this work in the village.

At Linwood Blair Martin had two weeks' Gospel Meetings with the assembly in November and a good number of local unbelievers came along to hear the message.

N. IRELAND & EIRE

Co. ANTRIM

Ballyclare Gospel Hall: The Gospel Meetings with D Gilliland and J Fleck have now entered their 5th week. Numbers attending have been most encouraging with many in the new hall for the first time. To date we have not heard of any professing salvation, but we continue to look to the Lord for blessing.

Ballymena Gospel Hall (Cambridge Avenue): T Armstrong spoke to a large number of children each Monday night during November. The messages were excellent, clearly presented, and were enjoyed by children, parents and friends.

Bushmills Gospel Hall: Very well attended Ministry Meetings with D McKillen (S Africa) concluded on 23rd November. The subject was "Coming Events in God's Prophetic Programme" and was illustrated by a large chart. The assembly was encouraged by the numbers attending and the support from other assemblies.

Carnlough Gospel Hall: The assembly had a much appreciated visit by Phil Coulson for the last week in November, when he spoke on the Glory of Christ - how He was greater than Abraham, Jacob, the Temple, Jonah, and Solomon. Many related subjects were also expounded. The ministry was heart-warming and encouraging for the small local company, who were joined by saints from at least twelve other neighbouring assemblies.

Clough Gospel Hall: The Annual Conference was held on 8th November. The speakers were D Gilliland, D McKillen, S McBride and, after refreshments, W Boyd and J Fleck. The hall was packed and the support from other assemblies was appreciated. The ministry given was helpful.

W Boyd had Ministry Meetings from 24th November-4th December on the subject of "Egypt to Canaan", which was illustrated by a large chart.

Co. TYRONE

Ardstraw Gospel Hall: D McGarvey and G Woods spent the month of November with the assembly visiting door to door and conducting Gospel Meetings in a Community Centre in Douglas Bridge. A few locals gave encouragement in their attendance along with a large number of unbelievers of all ages connected to the local saints. It is some time since parts of this rural area of West Tyrone have been visited, with many homes receiving a copy of Safety,Certainty and Enjoyment or one of the Gospels. Prayer valued for the seed sown.

Cookstown Gospel Hall: R McKeown had Ministry Meetings from 10th-14th November which the local believers appreciated.

Fintona Gospel Hall: A seven week series of Gospel Meetings concluded at the end of November. The speakers were B Currie and J Palmer. The glorious gospel was simply preached and was heard by all who attended, including a number of locals. Support for the meetings was given by surrounding assemblies.

Killycurragh Gospel Hall: N Mellish was with the assembly for one week of profitable ministry. The interest was encouraging, with good support from other assemblies.

Tullylagan Gospel Hall: Gospel Meetings which commenced on 9th November are still continuing as at 2nd December with B Smith and S Nelson. Some local folk have attended but, sadly, not consistently.

BELFAST

Parkgate Gospel Hall: E Fairfield and J Rogers continue with very encouraging numbers attending, including those needing salvation. The area has been well visited and 7,000 invitations have been distributed locally, with help from the assembly. The saints are waiting patiently to see the hand of God in salvation.

Newtownbreda Gospel Hall: The assembly was encouraged by a three-week series in the gospel in their out-reach hall in Purdysburn village. W Martin and W Gribben were the speakers. Good numbers attended and on many nights the hall was filled to capacity. Some, who were business contacts of brother Gribben, heard the gospel for the first time. There was little response from the residents of the village, but one attended almost every night. The seed was faithfully sown and the results are left in God's hand.

Sandringham Gospel Hall: Brother Jim Allen was with the assembly for two weeks' Bible Readings in November on "The Letters to the 7 Churches in Asia (Rev 1-3)". Gospel Meetings in two neighbouring assemblies meant that there was less local support than normal, but visitors from other parts were made very welcome, and their helpful contributions were much appreciated. Mr Allen has ministered and written extensively on the book of Revelation and his input was greatly valued. His presentation of the subject matter was with freshness and clarity, and helpful notes were distributed nightly. His remarkable recall of historical and spiritual lessons belied his almost 70 years of assembly life and experience. The meetings were judged to be among the best on the subject by many who attended to profit.

Sandringham Gospel Hall: During the month of November, the Friday children's meetings were taken by T Haire who gave excellent messages on "Wise Creatures in the Bible", with live examples exhibited! Children and adults who attended enjoyed the meetings immensely and once again the good seed was sown in young hearts. We await a day of reaping!

Co. DOWN

Banbridge: W Boyd gave most instructive ministry over two weeks from 3rd-14th November on the subject: "From Egypt to Canaan".

Co. LONDONDERRY & Co DONEGAL

Lisachrin: N Mellish was with the assembly for three nights of teaching from 1st Peter.

Magherafelt: W Fenton and A Colgan preached the gospel for five weeks, resulting in a boy of twelve being saved - the son of a couple in the Magherafelt assembly. The assembly was also encouraged by the attendance of people who had not been seen in the hall for some years, but who have various family connections with Christians. There was virtually no response from the people of the town.

Moneydig: R McKeown gave five nights of teaching based on 1st Thessalonians. The teaching was helpful to the assembly, especially in the light of the recent and sudden homecall of a lovely young sister in the Moneydig assembly.

EIRE

Newcastle West

Colin Burnett has been visiting the town of Rathkeale, going round the doors. It is a town of 4,000 – 5,000 people and the response was good. Pray for Helen and Rachel who were both open to what they were being told, and said they had learned more in a few minutes than they ever had learned at church. Rachel in particular was taking everything in and was close to making a decision. She said she would start reading her Bible again, as she didn't know that what she was hearing was in the Bible. After talking for an hour she was given a CD and an invitation to the fellowship. Siobhan works in the same shop as some believers. One of them had had a talk with her and after about 10 minutes she started to cry but was afraid to make a decision since her daughter loves the RC church. She said that she knew she needed to be saved so please pray for her.

ENGLAND & WALES

Northeast

Joe Baxter and Martin Hunter had two good weeks in Jarrow preaching the gospel, with some unsaved folk present who listened well. One man, a Roman Catholic who was contacted on the doors, came on the last night and asked them to pray for him that he would get saved. The door to door work was good and about forty people are now being written to. Support from surrounding assemblies in the area was excellent, indeed from as far away as Redcar and Hartlepool. The assembly has around fourteen in fellowship and they work well, praying now that there will be results in the gospel.

Stockport

Wesley Downs tells of encouragement at the baptism of N in October as he obeyed the Lord in this public way. He gave a short word of testimony as to how the Lord has worked in his life and the difference He has made to him. A good number of people came, including N's ex-probation worker. We had some difficulties with this lady first of all accepting him into the Stockport area, and then with the rules we have on our program. That she came was therefore a wonderful answer to prayer. She had had a terrible day at work, and felt that everything was stopping her coming, but she couldn't live with herself if she hadn't come for N's sake. This bears testimony to the respect that she has for N and the interest she has shown in him including the change in his life which she has observed. By contrast it was also a joy to witness a young sister brought up in a Christian home being baptized as well. It was also a wonderful privilege to be part of M and L's marriage - good to see some of the lads from the Mill enjoying the happiness of a Christian wedding. One of them said, "Who needs alcohol to have a good time when we have the Lord!" M has been such a great help and blessing to the work of the Mill, and it was a real thrill to see him finding such a lovely life partner.

Home Counties and the South

Malcolm Radcliffe was with the assembly in Wallingford for three nights of ministry in November.

At Bicester Alan Barber was with the assembly for a week's children's meetings in October. The assembly also rented the Village Hall in Bucknell for four Sundays in November and were encouraged to see a few new people come to hear the gospel.

At Spencer Bridge Road, Northampton, recent efforts in tracting have proved fruitful, with numerous new people of varying nationalities coming in to the Gospel Meeting. The assembly also continues to pursue a vigorous work among a couple of dozen local schools.

J Black conducted a week of children's meetings at Bexleyheath in November.

Three weeks of gospel meetings were conducted by P Scarsbrook and R Eadie in Hanslope, running concurrently with a Bible Exhibition. The assembly saw a good interest and many people came into the Hall to hear the gospel.

Johnathan Black had a week with his Bible Exhibition at Pamber Heath, back to back with a week of children's meetings conducted by Graeme Paterson.

London

Numerous believers joined together in London in September to give out thousands of specially produced gospel tracts in connection with the Tall Ships event. Pray that the seed sown will bear fruit.

Yorkshire

The 19th residential Yorkshire Bible Study Week was held at Sneaton Castle Centre, Whitby with 80 people from many parts of the UK in attendance. Phil Coulson led Bible Readings on 1 John 5, and 2 and 3 John, and gave ministry on "Mountain Scenes". The sound teaching and warm fellowship were much appreciated.
