The Lord's Work & Workers

SCOTLAND

Isle of Lewis

During the first week of July, Gospel meetings were conducted by Ainslie Patterson of Forres in the Gospel Hall, Stornoway. Before the meetings began he had the opportunity to take part in a local radio community programme where he described his work as an evangelist. He also gave the "Morning Thought" on the radio each day during the week of the meetings and was able to promote them on all of these occasions. With help from Neil Wilson from Peterhead a large number of tracts and invitations were distributed, and some good contacts were made. Local Christians supported the meetings well, some coming every night, and a few unsaved people also attended. Furthermore, the messages are to be broadcast on the local radio Sunday Service in due course. Please pray that the Seed sown will yet bear fruit following these remarkable opportunities given on the radio as well as at the Gospel Hall where the local believers continue a faithful testimony.

Camps and Holiday Clubs

During most weeks of the school holidays, week-long camps were held in several locations as noted in last month's magazine. Now that these are over, may we not forget to pray that Satan will not "snatch away" that good Seed which has been sown in young hearts and minds, that sooner or even later many of these children and teenagers will be brought to trust the Saviour. Pray too for the preservation and spiritual growth of those who professed to be saved at camp, that local believers may be able to help and nurture these young ones who may not get much encouragement in their own homes.

As well as Camps, assemblies too numerous to list here throughout the country held week-long Holiday Clubs in their own halls when in total many hundreds of other children came and heard the Gospel on consecutive days of the week, learning good Gospel songs, Bible memory verses and doing related crafts which would back up the messages given. In addition, many parents and friends came to the end-of-week prizegivings, and in a friendly atmosphere found out for themselves something of the Gospel message.

N. IRELAND & EIRE

Co. ANTRIM

Ballybollan Gospel Hall: A large company gathered for the Annual Conference on 13th July and received ministry from W J Nesbitt, R McKeown, E McCullough and J Hay and, after the interval, C Munro, B Glendinning and Dennis Williamson. It was considered to be a good conference, and those who attended were very satisfied with the refreshments which were the result of special efforts by the sisters!

Ballymena Gospel Hall (Cambridge Avenue): It was suggested in the July issue that J Rogers had been involved with the meetings referred to, when in fact it should have stated that it had been J Fleck who was with D Gilliland.

Bushmills Gospel Hall: During July, the largest ever Bible Readings were held in Dunluce School (kindly granted) with many visitors from different countries and much participation as R McKeown conducted studies on the book of Titus. The series was very much appreciated.

Carnlough: The Annual Open-air Meetings were held at the harbour from 19th-23rd July. Help was given by Alan Smith from Scotland and other local brethren.

Co. DOWN

Ballyhay: A Davidson and M Hunter have commenced Gospel Meetings in a tent in Ballyvester. The initial local response has been encouraging.

Ballymagarrick Gospel Hall: The Annual Conference was held on 14th July, and a large company gathered to hear a variety of wholesome ministry from brethren D Gilliland, J Holifield, A Summers, M Radcliffe, L Craig and G Woods. It was considered a good and profitable day.

Ballymagarrick: G Patterson was with the assembly for one week of Children's Meetings held in Carryduff Primary School. Response from local children was very encouraging, and an excellent number of parents were present on the final evening.

Ballywalter: As in previous years, the assembly had a stand at the local fair on 19th July. Over 1,500 carrier bags with literature for adults and children were distributed, as well as some 1,500 CDs and many tracts.

Bangor, Central Hall: The Annual Open-air Meetings in the sunken gardens at the seafront were held from 1st-14th July. The speaker was P McCauley, assisted by David Williamson during the first week, and E Fairfield during the second week. The gospel was clearly presented with much literature being given out to passers-by, as a result of which many valuable conversations were held and contacts made. It was good to see one person saved as a result of this work in recent years. Prayer is requested for the seed sown.

Cardy: The Assembly held its annual Children's Gospel Outreach from 27th-31st July, with N McClarty. Response during the week was most encouraging with some 300 children hearing the gospel. A very large number of parents attended the final evening, some of whom came to the Gospel Meeting on the following Lord's Day. Prayer is requested for blessing in salvation.

Newry: Once again the assembly had a stand at the local agricultural show. A large amount of literature and texts were distributed, and many good contacts made.

Co. LONDONDERRYY & Co DONEGAL

Bridgetown: (Co Donegal) The assembly was greatly encouraged by the numbers of believers present for the Conference on Saturday 1st August, and also by the numbers which stayed over to Break Bread on the Lord's Day. This meeting would normally have "teens" of believers Breaking Bread, and so it was very heartening to see over 100 gathering, and enjoying a sense of the Lord's presence. Each of our brethren enjoyed the Lord's help in ministering God's Word and the Lord's people were refreshed - the Lord is gracious. The meetings continued from 3rd to 6th August when J Grant was responsible for the ministry of the Word of God.

Portstewart: The Children's Meetings with R Plant during July had encouraging numbers and consistent attendance. The children enjoyed Mr Plant's enthusiasm with his Bible stories etc.

Co. TYRONE

ENGLAND & WALES

Bicester: T Armstrong and J Rogers have finished three weeks of most enjoyable tent meetings. The saints worked fervently, demonstrating much interest in their local district by distributing many invitations and tracts. Some new contacts were made, and it was most encouraging to see people under the gospel message. The saints of the assembly made visitors most welcome and fully expect to see some of them returning to their Gospel Meeting in Hebron on Sunday nights (DV). Other assemblies supported the meetings, bringing their loved ones to hear the Gospel. Much effort by the believers was made for the Children's Meetings during the three weeks and many visiting children heard the story of the gospel for the first time.

The Upper Hill St Gospel Hall in Coventry had two weeks of Bible Exhibition and Gospel Meetings in early June. The gospel was preached by Bobbie Eadie (NI) in conjunction with local brethren.  Over 400 people signed the Visitor's Book (including 60 school children) with some excellent contacts and good opportunities to present the gospel via exhibition material. Through the Bible Exhibition outreach 21 new contacts attended the series of Gospel Meetings, with unsaved folk present each night and visitor numbers increasing to between 5 and 8 in the second week.  Prayer is valued for further blessing in salvation, and for the spiritual establishment and growth of a man of 24 who made a clear profession of faith after attending the meetings for five evenings

In Pamber Heath and Tadley around 5,000 invitations were distributed prior to a short series of Gospel Meetings. New Gospel texts recently placed round the walls of the Gospel Hall were used by Daniel Rudge as the basis for his messages, a different one each night.  A few unsaved folk came in each evening but so far no response has been noted.

In London Johnny Black reports on weekly meetings which have been held in the Clockhouse Community Centre, Woolwich for five Friday nights. This is a new area and many contacts have been made. The number of people who came from the surrounding area of flats and housing was very encouraging with up to 19 in each night from the area along with those who were brought by other believers. Some heard the gospel for the first time. On the fourth Friday brother Kevin Oh gave an outline on baptism and one woman expressed an interest in obeying the Lord in this way. On the fifth Friday there was a teaching session about the assembly - its first mention, its formation, its features and its future. Some believers with a "Pentecostal" affiliation attended and had not heard this truth taught before. Focus On... booklets were distributed, a useful way to back up the teaching. Above the room where they met, Muslim Friday prayers were being held and one of these Muslim ladies expressed an interest in learning more about what they were doing. Other South London assemblies supported the meetings well. God will bless His Word and the believers are praying that they will have the opportunity to repeat this exercise next year, Lord willing.

In Wembley, for a second year Nitish Patel has used the Bible Exhibition in the Gujarati language, designed with a special emphasis on Creation (Acts 17.24). There was a much better response this year with around 104 different people attending over two weeks including 28 children. Most were Hindus and almost daily there was opportunity for the gospel. The children came in good numbers every day to do worksheets. A cassette tape of readings from the Gospels in Gujarati was played on loudspeakers outside which attracted attention to the Exhibition. A Moslem from the Middle East took an Arabic Bible. He had one at home in English and was pleased that he could now better understand the Bible in his own language. An Indian family visiting from Germany came in; the man was a believer but his family were Hindus. One Hindu man came every day and encouraged a number of his friends to come, while another visiting his son from India carefully read every panel and took literature home. Prayer is valued for further souls to be saved
