The Lord's Work & Workers

SCOTLAND

During March the Christians who meet in Perth Gospel Hall were thrilled to experience God at work. Over a two-week period Gordon McCracken visited about 25 schools to take assemblies. In the first week a very encouraging Superclub was held each evening in the Gospel Hall, and 107 children and 30 adults attended the prizegiving on Sunday afternoon.

In the latter part of the month a fortnight of gospel meetings took place, with Gareth Edwards and Alasdair Baijal sharing the preaching. The Christians distributed 10,000 invitations, encouraged people to attend the meetings, and spent some evenings in prayer. The fruit of contacts made over several years was seen, and God blessed. Almost 100 different people outwith the assembly attended, of whom about 70 were unbelievers. Two men professed faith in Christ on the final evening. The church had further reason to praise God when a young woman, originally contacted when her daughters came to Sunday School, indicated that she had been saved at the beginning of March and requested baptism. Please pray for seed which has been sown, for those who have been saved, and for guidance in following up contacts.

In the middle weekend of March a group of young people were at Faskally House, Pitlochry for the annual weekend of Bible teaching, given on this occasion by Alex John Strachan of Peterhead. Although the numbers were smaller than usual, it was a good group which integrated well as a whole. There was excellent attention to the teaching, and good positive feedback. Pray that these young people may be encouraged and inspired to go on for the Lord, and remember also to pray for Grant and Bobbie Stewart who are now the resident managers of the facility.

N IRELAND & REPUBLIC OF IRELAND

CO ANTRIM

Ahoghill: The assembly at Ahoghill hosted its 38th Annual Missionary Conference on Friday 1st April. The very large attendance indicated the interest of believers in missionary work. Challenging and encouraging reports were given by J Black (London), M McKillen (Gorey) and C Raggett (Botswana).

Antrim Gospel Hall: During the week leading up to Easter, the assembly held a four night series entitled 'Big Questions for Easter', when J Parkinson addressed vital topics. The assembly was greatly encouraged, with a wide variety of friends and visitors attending, and a full hall almost every night. Refreshments and a literature table proved useful in furthering conversation on the topics addressed. Quite a number of unsaved contacts from the town attended. We pray for blessing in salvation.

Kells Gospel Hall: E Fairfield had Bible Readings on 'The Tabernacle' at the end of March. There was good attendance and they were considered to be helpful, especially to young believers.

Portrush Gospel Hall: S Wells had three nights of well-attended and very edifying ministry meetings in mid-March.

CO ARMAGH

Portadown: Gospel meetings were held in a portable hall in the town for almost eight weeks. The hall was full nightly, with many people from the locality in attendance. God blessed in salvation. Speakers were J Fleck and D Strahan.

CO TYRONE

Ardstraw: A four-week series of gospel meetings, conducted by B Glendinning in a farmer's hall in Victoria Bridge, concluded on 25th March. Attendance was encouraging but, as always, it was difficult to see locals attending consistently. However, the unsaved children of local believers did attend.

Clones Gospel Hall: Gospel meetings during March gave much to encourage, and A Colgan and G Woods were delighted to see a good number of locals attend the meetings, some for the first time. A special effort was made by the local saints to interest their friends and neighbours, and also to help the preachers in door-to-door visitation in the area.

CO LONDONDERRY

Aughrim: The Annual Conference was very well attended, and the teaching given by H Reid (Brazil) and D Crooks (Belfast) was considered to be excellent.

A large number of parents attended on the final night.

Newtownards: The gospel meetings conducted by N Fleck and S Nelson concluded with the assembly being very encouraged by seeing blessing in salvation.

BELFAST

Glengormley: A Steele and J Rogers concluded gospel meetings after five weeks.  Excellent numbers attended, with some local people also present.  The assembly is confident that the seed sown will yield fruit in God's own time.

The Belfast Easter Conference this year was very well attended, and was enjoyed by those who were present.

We had the help of visiting brethren Frank Sona (Canada), Phil Coulson (Scotland) and Jonathan Black (England) who, together with local brethren, shared in the ministry. The help of all the brethren was much appreciated. The ministry was Christ-exalting, encouraging and challenging.

The Home Workers' Report Meeting was shared by brethren Jonathan Black, Paul McCauley and Bobby Eadie.

Marco Gebara (Brazil), with Tom Meekin translating, Frank Sona (USA and Caribbean) and Phil Coulson (India and Sri Lanka) took part in the Foreign Workers' Reports Meeting. All gave a most interesting and edifying report of the Lord's Work in which they have been engaged.

The closing Gospel Meeting on the Wednesday evening was taken by brother Frank Sona, who gave a clear presentation of the gospel to a well-filled hall.

We look for results both from the gospel preached and the ministry and reports given.

In February, Dan Gillies spoke at the Annual Homeworkers' Conference in North Shields, and gave an excellent and informative account of his work for the Lord.

Pallion, Sunderland: A very successful Holiday Bible Club was held in February, with Ian Campbell as the speaker. The weekly coffee morning continues to encourage with a good number of regular visitors, three of whom now regularly attend the Gospel Meeting on Lord's Day. Ian Campbell is taking a series of illustrated ministry meetings throughout March on 'Daniel's 70 Weeks'. Three or four teenagers from the Sunday School are showing good interest. The believers would value prayer that the hundreds of tracts, newspapers and John's Gospels distributed regularly in the Sunderland area will produce some interest and fruit in the gospel.
