Poetry: Come and See

S Nicholes

Where dwellest thou? Can we behold
The One of whom the prophets told?
Whose goings forth have been of old?
Come and see!

The Word, the Lamb, the Life, the Light,
The object of God’s pure delight,
Can mortal man behold that sight?
Come and see!

Then said Andrew, Peter’s brother,
"We’ve found Him, do not seek another.
He is the Christ we’ll soon discover:
Come and see!"

The Word of God, yet flesh became,
Jesus of Nazareth, His name,
One said, "That place of such ill-fame?"
Come and see!

Nathaniel came in all his need,
"Behold an Israelite indeed",
Then with the rest he soon agreed.
He came and saw!

He is the trusting saint’s delight,
And as on Him we fix our sight
We say to those in sin’s dark night -
"Come and see!"
