The Lord's Work & Workers

SCOTLAND

Perth

A series of Gospel Meetings were held in Perth Gospel Hall over three weeks in April – May. Two young brethren, Gareth Edwards (Perth) and Alasdair Baijal (Ballingry) had the responsibility for the preaching which they shared each evening for 15 sessions. Prior to the Gospel Meetings the believers had some encouraging evenings of prayer, noting "Except the Lord build the house, they labour in vain that build it". It was good to see the unity and common purpose of the local Christians; many invited family, friends, neighbours and colleagues, whilst almost 9,000 invitations were distributed in the city.

During the three weeks, about 70 different people from outwith the church attended at least once, a mix of old and new contacts, and as far as is known about 50 are still unsaved. Although some attended almost every night and some showed concern, no professions of faith in the Lord Jesus were made known and prayer continues for such individuals.

Concurrently, Simon Sherwin (Leven) was with the assembly for a weekend of Bible teaching. He spoke on Ezekiel, noting his call to preach, but that he was told, "they will not hearken unto thee". He also directed attention to the responsibility of the watchman (ch.3) to give the warning to the people, but the responsibility for the response was with the hearers. It was a timely reminder that God is looking for faithfulness from us, but the outcome is from Him (1 Cor 3.6).

Plains

In May the assembly at Elim Gospel Hall had a series of Gospel Meetings conducted by Graeme Paterson. Many local villagers attended each evening , many almost every night. The gospel was clearly preached and many interesting comments were made by some of the hearers. The support of believers from other assemblies was appreciated. This year there have been local unbelievers regularly attending the weekly Sunday Gospel Meeting. We look to the Lord to bless.

For the past 40 consecutive years Plains assembly has held a weekly Children's Meeting which has always been well attended, and over the years some have professed faith in Christ. Towards the end of last winter's meetings they were pleased to learn of one girl from the village trusting the Saviour. Two prize-giving meetings were held during the year with over 80 attending on each occasion. As they enter their 41st year, starting with a week of meetings in August, God willing, they are praying that the Lord will  continue to bless.

In addition to this the local primary school has had their Christmas Service in Elim Hall for the past four years. This year they asked if they could also have their Easter Service there. Both of these meetings were conducted by Graeme Paterson. Including the school children, teachers and some parents, upwards of 120 were present to hear the gospel clearly presented. The school has no wish for involvement in these meetings, but is happy to leave everything to the local assembly. Graeme has unlimited access with the gospel into both of the village Primary Schools and the local High School.

Fraserburgh

The assembly had an excellent short series of meetings with the Lord's servant, Jack Hay, entitled Bible prophecy, What the future holds. A few unsaved folk were present each evening, and also some Christians from the town came along. Neighbouring assemblies along the coast gave good support - prayer valued.

Aberdeen

From 13th-23rd April, the assembly at Holburn Gospel Hall held a series of Public Lectures, which were widely advertised by door-to-door leafleting and in the local Media. The lectures, addressed by Stephen Grant, were on Scripture topics designed to focus attention on the relevance of the Bible to current and future events. On each occasion the gospel was clearly brought before those present. During the first week these lectures took place in a nearby Community Hall, while the second week's lectures took place in the Gospel Hall itself. Each evening about 40-50 people attended, a significant number of whom, as far as we know, were unsaved. Some have continued to show interest and are coming to Christianity Explored discussions in the Hall. We look to the Lord to bless these forms of outreach.

Summer Camps

Remembering that July and August are the main months for camps with children and teenagers, our prayers are acutely needed so that all will be kept safe, and that those responsible for all the organization and for the Bible teaching will know God's guidance and help in all that is done. Different locations throughout the country will be used, including Faskally House Pitlochry for the Ayrshire, Tayside and North-east Camps, Oxford for the Fife Camp, and the Shetland Camps on their own site near Sumburgh Airport. Do pray that these camps will be effective as a means of reaching many precious young people with the gospel, and will also challenge and encourage young believers to go in for spiritual and eternal things in an increasingly godless and hostile world.
