With Christ

Mr Jack Barnes, beloved husband of Betty, was called home on 17th March, aged 84. Jack was saved in 1953 and, with his wife, was in happy assembly fellowship, firstly in Tullylagan, then for 40 years in the Cookstown assembly. For his last 10 years Jack was a diligent member of the Portstewart assembly. He was of a quiet and gentle disposition, and will be greatly missed in the assembly, and by his wife Betty, son Robert, daughter-in-law Denise and grandchildren Sarah and Matthew. The large funeral service was conducted by R McKeown, J Rowe, J Wishart, W Taylor and L Reynolds.

Mr Alec Legge, aged 82, passed into the Lord's presence on 15th April. Our brother was saved as a young man, baptised, and received into assembly fellowship in Buller Street Gospel Hall, Lochgelly, Fife. There he served the Lord, and was committed to the life of the assembly, developing his gift in teaching children, working with young people, and teaching the saints. Alec gave himself to the study of the Scriptures from teenage years and was soon exercising his gift for the help and blessing of local assemblies in Fife. In 1964 he married Clem Smith; they set up home in Cowdenbeath and soon after came into fellowship with the believers in Union Hall, Cowdenbeath, Fife. He remained there faithfully serving the Lord and the saints until he was called home to glory. For many years he served as an elder in the assembly. Alec's teaching gift was widely used both locally and much farther afield; his wise counsel was sought by many and he had the joy of seeing many trust the Saviour. He had been a trustee with Interlink and fulfilled other helpful roles. Alec was a beloved brother in the Lord. He is greatly missed in the assembly at Union Hall. Remember his widow and wider family in prayer.

Mr Alexander Purvis, aged 89, on 20th April. After months of failing health and several weeks in hospital, our esteemed brother was called home to be with his Lord. For many years, Alex was in fellowship in the then Shuttle Street assembly, Paisley where he served as an elder and became secretary of the Renfrewshire Gospel Campaign before moving to North America. During his time there he was in happy fellowship in various assemblies including the Parkside Gospel Chapel, San Francisco, the Mountain Ridge Gospel Chapel, New Jersey, the Sun Valley Bible Chapel, California, then in the Langley Gospel Hall in British Columbia. Returning to Scotland in the summer of 2009, he and his wife Margaret were received into happy fellowship with the saints meeting in Bethany Hall, Gourock. Remember his wife Margaret in these days.
